Sean Mickey is an investigative reporter on the I-Team at WKBW in Buffalo. He is a Brockport native and graduate of the Jandoli School of Communication at St. Bonaventure University.
His investigations have garnered state, regional and national awards.
After joining Channel 7 in 2021, Sean began a months-long investigation into the state of Erie County's bridges. His reporting revealed a failure to maintain local bridges to satisfactory condition, and led to the early replacement of a bridge on Grand Island.
In 2022, he became the first reporter to obtain thousands of internal New York State Police disciplinary records the agency refused to turn over. Further investigation revealed the Erie County Sheriff's Office failed to strip the certification of deputies who broke the law. Several deputies were subsequently stripped of their certification in New York State.
In 2023, Sean fought for survivors of sexual abuse who were failed by the Catholic Church. He petitioned the New York State Attorney General's Office and successfully obtained the release of the Buffalo Diocese internal files related to testimony of former bishops.
Sean previously served as an assignment editor at WHAM in Rochester.
While a student at St. Bonaventure, Sean's reporting on sexual abuse by priests drew widespread attention, which culminated with the renaming of the university's administration building.
