
Althea Castro De La Mata is a dedicated and dynamic journalist with a passion for storytelling and community connection. Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Althea grew up surrounded by the vibrant energy of a multicultural city. At the age of 12, her life took an exciting turn when she moved to Lima, Peru. It was there that she developed a deep appreciation for her roots, falling in love with the food, the culture, and the close-knit family life that shaped her perspective.
In 2017, Althea returned to Miami to pursue higher education at the University of Miami. She majored in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science, where she honed her skills in reporting, writing, and on-air presentation, always driven by a desire to inform and uplift underrepresented voices.
Her journalism career began in 2023 in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she worked as a reporter for KRIS 6 News. There, she immersed herself in the Coastal Bend community, covering stories that mattered and building strong local ties. Her time in Corpus Christi strengthened her love for journalism and her commitment to being a voice for the people.
In 2025, Althea took the next big step in her journey, joining 7 News WKBW in Buffalo, New York. She’s thrilled to explore everything the city has to offer and is especially excited to connect with Buffalo’s growing Hispanic community. Althea is known for her warmth, curiosity, and dedication to telling stories with heart and integrity.
When she’s not reporting, Althea enjoys staying active through fitness, discovering new places through travel, and cooking. She believes every person has a story worth telling and she’s honored to help share them.
