Two weeks ago, Noemi Silleman was nearly killed when she accidentally drove her newly-bought jeep into the frigid waters of Cattaraugus Creek in Gowanda.  The woman, 20, thought her vehicle was in park when she mistakenly hit the gas causing it to drive over a low guard rail in a private parking lot behind Gowanda's Shop 'n Save store on Buffalo Street.

Crews working for the property owner are now installing large concrete barriers to prevent another similar accident.  After hearing about the installation, Noemi went to the scene to thank workers.

Her family is also thanking 7 Eyewitness News for covering Noemi's story and helping spread the word about the safety issue.  The day after the accident, reporter Ed Reilly met Noemi and her family at the scene to hear their concerns about the poor condition of the parking lot guard rails.
