BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A former corrections officer at the Albion Correctional Facility has pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal sexual act in the third degree.
In September 2019 29-year-old James Castonguay was arrested and accused of having unlawful sexual relations with two female inmates at the Albion facility.
In February 2020 Castonguay was named in a federal lawsuit that alleged male prison guards in New York's correctional facilities assaulted and raped female inmates and jail officials covered it up.
Castonguay pleaded guilty on August 6 in Orleans County Court via Skype, as part of his plea he is to be sentenced to no more than six months in prison and 10 years of probation as a sex offender.
An order of protection was issued for the victims for 10 and a half years. Castonguay will be sentenced October 28.
