CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) — Fire crews were on the scene of a large fire on Drake Drive off Cedargrove Circle in Cheektowaga Wednesday night.
Crews first responded to the fire around 11:30 p.m. They put out the fire, which later re-ignited, and crews were brought back to the scene. Cedargrove Circle was closed while crews put out the fire.
7 News Anchor Jeff Russo went to the fire scene on Thursday afternoon where he ran into on-site property manager Dashawn Robinson who was surveying the damage.
"I came here today to inspect the damages, to come by to make sure if there was anything I could do to help," said Robinson.
Robinson said he was inside his apartment at the front of the complex when the fire broke out in a back unit.
He said a total of six people lived in the complex. Fortunately, everyone made it out safely.
"It's a tragedy that it happened," said Robinson, "But you know, like I tell everyone, I'm just happy that, you know, we was able to make it, and wake up another day."
Robinson said he's had to move in with his mother because of the damage to his apartment. He said the others who lived at the complex are also staying with family.
Cheektowaga Police confirmed with 7 News that a fire inspector with the department is investigating the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
