Excelsior Orthopaedics is expanding this summer, and the move will mean more job opportunities across Western New York. Ten surgeons from two different practices will join the twenty-two surgeons already at Excelsior. Nine will come from Northtowns Orthopaedics, and another will come from Buffalo Orthopedic Group.

"It brings together a bunch of like-minded private practice surgeons who believe in patient-centered, patient-focused care," explained surgeon Andrew Stoeckl.

Right now Excelsior has locations in Amherst, Niagara Falls and Orchard Park. Joining forces with the new surgeons will give the practice an even larger footprint across Western New York.

"We're going to have a reach further into the southtowns, Ellicottille, and East Amherst," said Stoeckl.

With the expansion, patients will have more places to go for orthopaedic care, including physical therapy, advanced imaging, and on-site surgery. It also means more job opportunities will be created. Right now there are about 12 positions open at Excelsior Orthopaedics. As the collaboration moves forward, more will open up.

"We've got opportunities in a wide range. From patient service representatives to medical assistants, LPNs, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners," said Human Resources Director Michelle Plesh. She went on to say that she thinks one area in particular will have a number of opportunities moving forward.

"Our biggeest growth will probably be in physical therapy. Northtowns currently doesn't have therapists as part of their model, and Excelsior does," she explained.

Once the integration is complete, Excelsior will have about 350 employees in seven locations. Stoeckl and Plesh say the work environment is one of the best things about working at Excelsior.

"It's a place people like to come to work. And that's important," said Stoeckl. "Because I think for us to be able to take good care of our patients, the physicians and staff have to enjoy working here. That carries through to the patient experience. And that's what it's all about in our business."
