Lake effect snow impacting areas south and east of Buffalo today

Winter Storm Warning for Northern Erie and Genesee until 1am Saturday. Warning for Southern Erie, Wyoming, Chautauqua, and Cattaraugus counties until 7AM Saturday. Over a foot of snow possible in most persistent bands just south of Buffalo from the Bostons hills to the Chautauqua Ridge.

Here's what to expect into the weekend.

FRIDAY MORNING:
The band will impact the morning commute for the S.Towns and it could be a difficult one with low visibility and blowing snow through the lake band between Orchard Park and Boston along the 219 and Evans to Dunkirk along the 90.
Lake effect band will be on the move south though, from just about 20A and Warsaw southward. This band meanders from Dunkirk to 20A and south to Springville all day. This is where the highest totals can stack up. Snow rates of 2" per hour in the band.

FRIDAY:

FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Snow band will start to move north back toward the Southtowns.

FRIDAY NIGHT:
Lake effect starts over the Chautauqua Ridge toward the Boston Hills with snow for Buffalo Saturday morning.

Over a foot of snow is possible in the most persistent bands south of Buffalo from our deeper southtowns to the Chautauqua Ridge.
