Bove: Royal Rumble was OK, could've been better

Let's make one thing very clear right off the bat -- I'm not a huge WWE guy, but I'll tune in occasionally. That being said, I watched the Royal Rumble this year with some friends who are die-hard wrestling fans, so I got a lot of their perspectives during the nearly four-hour event.

If you haven't watched yet or don't want to know the results stop reading here:

Was anybody expecting Randy Orton to win the Royal Rumble match? Seriously, I don't know if anyone saw that coming. Some would say his win came 'outta nowhere...'

I was pretty hyped when Orton won but I think that was only because Roman Reigns didn't win. My buddy who is a massive wrestling fan was LIVID when Reigns entered the match. I thought he might punch the television. As a casual WWE guy, I said right after the Kevin Owens -- Roman Reigns match that I thought this exact scenario was going to happen, but my friend replied: "people will riot if that happens."

Well, it happened, and judging by Twitter, people indeed were rioting with their thumbs and a 140 character limit.

The group I was watching with thought either Braun Strowman or Chris Jericho would be the last man standing -- but we were clearly wrong. Then, when Reigns entered the ring I didn't see a scenario where he wasn't going to win -- and then somehow, someway, Orton pulled it off.

I was definitely surprised, so at least we got an ending that not really anyone expected.

My favorite match of the night was without question the AJ Styles vs. John Cena match. I didn't really care who won and I was just hoping for an entertaining battle -- and boy did we get one of those.

The aforementioned Owens -- Reigns fight was also great, with plenty of plot twists.

Overall, I was entertained by the event, especially the two title fights. I was hoping for some more surprises, but at least we got 'The Perfect 10' Tye Dillinger.  The result was something I didn't expect, so at least there's that.

It's certainly going to be an interesting two months...
