A local gym is helping a North Buffalo family rebuild after their home was badly damaged from an explosion.

The blast, which originated from a home next door on Covington Road, damaged two homes, including that of Mariah Tarapacki's family, she works at Terrie's Workout Center on Hertel Avenue.

To lend a helping hand, the gym held a Zumbathon on Saturday to benefit the family.

"I mean, it's just kind of inspiring," said Tarapacki. "Zumba makes people happy. This week's been very stressful and to see people laughing and having fun is really nice."

All of the money raised from the event will directly benefit the Tarapacki family.

Investigators say Tarapacki's neighbor intentionally blew-up his own home in a suicide attemptback on April 19.  He is now facing several charges including arson.
