Vidler's 5 & 10 on Main Street in East Aurora won't be featured in a Super Bowl commercial after losing the Intuit Quickbook's Small Business Big Game competition.
The competition started in September with 15,000 companies. Online voting narrowed down the competition to 10 finalists and then to three companies. The winner, Death Wish Coffee, was then picked by a panel of judges.
The winner gets a 30-second spot during the Super Bowl worth $4.1 million. Quickbooks will pay to produce and develop the commercial, as well as paying for the timeslot during the game.
Vidler's, which has been open since 1930, has been family-owned for 86 years. Beverly Vidler had hoped a Super Bowl commercial would increase awareness of the store but also, "Buffalo and the entire area."
Though they didn't win the contest, Vidler's did get a runner's up prize: a $25,000 check and local media and advertising valued up to $15,000.
