A toddler from Chautauqua County is in the hospital with serious injuries and a parent is being charged with assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies say first responders were called to a home on East Avenue Thursday morning and found the injured 18-month-old. The child was taken to a local hospital, then flown to Oishei Children’s Hospital for treatment.

After an investigation, deputies arrested 34-year-old Richard Pryll-Simpson, the child’s custodial parent.

Deputies say he was arraigned in the Town of Cherry Creek Court and taken to the Chautauqua County jail with a bail of $200,000 cash or $400,000 property bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
