AMHERST, NY (WKBW-TV) — They never expected to end up working in the restaurant business. Joe Delaney and Kevin Hanlon began in 1979, Joe as a bus boy and Kevin behind the bar. They have done just about every job you can imagine in the restaurant industry and what's really amazing is, they did it under one roof-The Scotch 'N Sirloin.
Kevin says he prefers to be behind the grill "I'm a cook, that's what I do-I love to cook." Actually Kevin is more than a cook. In 1996 he and Joe bought the place. This year the restaurant celebrates it's 50th anniversary and Joe Delaney and Kevin Hanlon have been here for 40 of those years.
There have been some changes. Obviously the prices have gone up since they opened in 1969. The guys try to keep as much of the place as possible the same. Kevin adds "we age the beef, we cut it and cook it here, there's no preservatives just like when your father ate here."
