Anthony Lidge has been learning carpentry skills. He and his classmates are graduating this week from a program called Society for the Advancement of Construction Related Arts, SACRA for short.
The program is a collaboration between the Albright-Knox Art Gallery's Innovation Lab and Assembly House 150 run by artist/architect Dennis Maher. He says "we are focused on a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail and tying into the art and design history of the city."
Eight students have been working on a number of projects including build a large section of a Victorian style home. Prior to this program Anthony's specialty had been roofing. Now he has the skill to build a house from the ground up. He says "I feel proud for me and my team mates."
Innovation Lab's Russell Davidson says "the plan is that we are placing the students on to a career path, helping to transform and enhance their lives."
