HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW-TV) — Carol Berman puts in some long hours in the garden. Her garden is a rental. It's a four foot by fifty foot parcel behind Lockwood's Garden Center in Hamburg. Carol says that she's there gardening "about six hours a week" and adds "I was looking for a place to plant, because I can't do it where I live."

Beth Henesey heads up the Community Garden at Lockwood's. The spots rent for $85.00 annually. They are cultivated and there's plenty of water available. Beth says "folks can come in, find their parcel and start planting."

Beth says that the gardeners have to adhere to organic growing practices which means no pesticides. Carol has been with the program since it started seven years ago and says "it's very satisfying to make a meal with everything you produced yourself."

Lockwood's Garden Center is at 4484 Clark Street, Hamburg, NY. You can contact Beth Henesey at the store 716-649-4684 you can also email Beth at beth@weknowplants.com and more info at the Lockwood's website.
