State investigating power plant shutdown

New York State officials are looking into how and why a nuclear reactor shut down at the Indian Point nuclear power plant.

The unexpected shutdown happened last night after what's being called, "an electrical disturbance."

What that means is unclear.

The Governor has released a statement saying no radioactivity was released into the environment.

7 Eyewitness News went digging through our archives and found out this isn't the first time an "electrical disturbance" caused an outage at the nuclear facility.

A similar case, if not the same kind of situation, happened back in June and before that in May.

Now the state is ordering increased inspections and scrutiny of the plant.
