Source: Vesey unlikely to play for Sabres

Jimmy Vesey is set to become a free agent on August 15th and it looks like he might not be choosing to play for the Buffalo Sabres.

According to a source, Vesey still isn’t 100-percent certain where he’ll sign, but Buffalo isn't in his plans at this point in time. That same source also said to not be surprised if Vesey chooses to play for either the New York Rangers or Chicago Blackhawks.

7 Eyewitness News Sports Reporter Nick Filipowski received this statement from Vesey's representatives Wednesday afternoon:

"There are no front runners. Jimmy will go through the process and Buffalo will be part of that process. Everything said or read until that time is speculation."

According to a report from CSNNE, Vesey’s top three preferred spots are Chicago, the New York Rangers, and New Jersey.

The Sabres traded a third-round pick to Nashville for the prospect earlier this summer, and the Sabres have met with Vesey several times. But, the song remains the same: Still no contract between Vesey and Buffalo.

The Buffalo Sabres hold exclusive negotiating rights with Vesey until Monday, August 15th. Once that date is reached, he is free to sign wherever he’d like.
