The United States Coast Guard spent some time, Sunday, looking into reports of a wetsuit floating in the Niagara River, near Beaver Island State Park.

USCG dispatchers tell 7 Eyewitness News, they were called by Niagara Regional Police about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Coast Guard launched a station boat along with Grand Island Fire Department.

Crews searched the area for some time, but the wetsuit was never found.

Buffalo police and the Coast Guard have suspended the search for Officer Craig Lehner, after he went missing Friday in the Niagara River.  He disappeared during a routine training mission.

Search crews are on heightened alert as they search for the missing officer.

Police say this has moved from a search and rescue mission to a recovery effort.

The search effort is expected to resume Monday morning.
