This is the first time in recent years folks won’t be able to see the firework show from Buffalo’s Outer Harbor.

Crews will shoot fireworks from a barge in the middle of the water at Canalside.

“Shooting out at the Outer Harbor makes it very difficult for people to see the fireworks at Canalside,” Russell Salvatore said.

The restaurant owner and philanthropist is the man behind the show. He’s been financing these massive firework shows for about 20 years.

“I just hope it goes so well that people say that was one of the nicest moves we made for canal side for the 4th of July,” Salvatore said.

Next year Salvatore wants to kick the party up a notch with closing down the Skyway. Line it with food trucks and allow people to wall on it and watch the show from above.

“I love doing anything I can do to make the community happy,” Salvatore said.

As for tonight, police and fire are set up and ready to make sure everyone is safe at 4th of July festivities at Canalside. Several roads around the area are closed to traffic. A reminder there are several items you can not take to the show including bags larger than 12X12, pets, and glass containers.
