Police break up massive party near UB, partygoer falls off roof

A 20-year-old partygoer suffered serious injuries on Monday after falling off the roof of an apartment near the University at Buffalo.

Amherst Police say they received several complaints of a large “out of control” party at The Villas-West, which is an off campus student housing complex.

According to police, officers found hundreds of intoxicated young people roaming the complex.

Officers attempted to break up the party, with the help of UB Police.

A 20-year-old man, from Port Chester, was found by officers after falling off the roof and was initially unresponsive. Police say he was treated and evaluated by first responders and taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment.

Police say the situation was under control after about an hour of heavy police presence.

Management of the apartment complex was also made aware of the situation.

The University at Buffalo issued this statement regarding the party:

"On Monday afternoon, Amherst Police contacted University Police for assistance with a large party at the Villas on Rensch, an off-campus student housing complex. One student was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. Individuals from UB’s Student Life department have reached out and are providing support to the student. Amherst Police and University Police responded to the party at approximately 4 p.m. No arrests were made and the individuals involved cooperated with authorities. The Villages on Rensch are not owned or operated by the university. Amherst Police are working with the property manager to prevent more issues like this from occurring in the future. Students are told in no uncertain terms that they put their academic careers at risk by breaking the law or violating UB’s code of student conduct. When student behavior violates the law, it is our expectation that students will face the consequences of their behavior through enforcement of applicable laws and the university’s disciplinary process. Should a student’s action be ruled as violating the conduct code, disciplinary action from the office of Student Conduct and Advocacy can range from mandated drug and alcohol classes and community service hours, to long-term suspension and expulsion."
