Orchard Park police, ECWA officials report another instance of meter service worker impersonators

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) -

It's happened again.

For the second time in two weeks, individuals impersonating Erie County Water Authority meter service workers gained entry to a home in Orchard Park. Police say nothing was reported stolen as a result of the encounter.

A similar incident was reported at the end of January in the Town of Aurora.

ECWA officials and Orchard Park police are now reinforcing their warnings to residents. They're also telling you how to spot potential criminals versus the real deal:

  • the ECWA does not make unannounced visits

  • legit ECWA meter service workers travel in white vehicles with a blue ECWA decal on both sides, wear a blue uniform with an ECWA emblem, and carry a photo ID badge
