There is a new option for senior citizens looking for an apartment on Buffalo.

The brand new True Bethel Estates has officially opened its doors on East Ferry Street. The 50-unit building offers income based rent to senior citizens and is already filled to capacity. Eight million dollars from the Department of Housing and Urban Development was used for the project, which supporters believe will continue the recent momentum on Buffalo's east side.

"We wanted something that was spectacular," said True Bethel Bapist Pastor Darius Pridgen. "Something that no matter where, when you walked in here, you don't even know you are on the east side, west side, north side or the south side. All that you knew is that you are in a great facility."

Representative Brian Higgins was among the supporters in attendance for the ribbon cutting. "This is a project that provided 50 units of housing for people that not only need it but for people of this community that have contributed to it and deserve it."

Tenants living at True Bethel Estates sign a year to year lease. Building officials says there is already more that 34 people on the waiting list for an apartment.
