Mary Kate O'Connell and her roommate Rosie are prepared to do some freezing this week. Rosie is a dog. Mary Kate is an actress, producer and Executive Director of O'Connell and Company a popular local theatre company.
This week she's shining the spotlight on the Rural Outreach Center in East Aurora. An organization dedicated to assisting impoverished families that live outside of cities. Mary Kate's challenge is to cut down her energy use, keep her thermostat at 65 degrees and share her experience on Facebook. She says "to walk in someone else's shoes not only helps us understand people, but also appreciate what we have."
The Rural Outreach Center wants people to know that 62% of the area's poverty is found outside of cities. Rosie and Mary Kate O'Connell want you to know that they don't mind shivering for a good cause.
