They don't build them like this anymore-at least not since 1851. That's when the Marilla Country Store opened. Sandy Grunzweig's Mom and Dad purchased the place in the 1970's. Sandy and her husband Paul took over the operation 17 years ago. According to Sandy, the store has quite a story "for a hundred and sixty-six years this business has been in continuous operation, never been closed, never been anything but a store."

The store is packed ceiling to floor with everything and anything you can imagine. If you have a sweet tooth this place is Heaven, offering old fashioned candies, Crystal Beach Suckers and chocolates.

There are canned goods and bulk foods as well as modern toys right next to old fashioned ones. The upstairs is a gift shop. And tucked away in one corner is a museum that Sandy's parents put together when they bought the place. Sandy explains "they were able to buy one of each thing and keep it with the store."

A hundred years ago the Marilla Country Store was almost robbed by three bad guys who tried to blow up the safe. Little did they know, the owner had a burglar alarm so he was able to catch the culprits in the act. The safe is "safe and sound" and on display in the store.
