NEW YORK (WKBW) — Tim Hortons announced its "Roll Up the Rim to Win" promotion will be digital only "due to the current public health environment."
The "Roll Up the Rim" paper cups are being eliminated and over one million digital prizes are being redistributed.
Tim Hortons explained their reasoning for the change in a statement which you can read in part below:
"Tim Hortons is making this decision in the best interests of guests, restaurant owners and team members. Tim Hortons does not believe it’s the right time for team members in restaurants to collect rolled up tabs that have been in people’s mouths during this current public health environment. Tim Hortons recognizes that some guests will miss the excitement of rolling up the paper cups, even for good reason given the current public health environment. This is why Tim Hortons has made the digital promotion even more exciting with over 1 million prizes."
The restaurant says it is working with its sustainability team to responsibly collect all of the paper Roll Up the Rim cups to ensure they are properly recycled.
Here is how Tim Hortons described how the promotion will now work:
"Tims Rewards members will earn a digital roll when they scan their Tims Rewards loyalty card or app when purchasing a medium, large, or extra-large hot beverage during the four weeks of the promotion. Anyone can sign up for the Tims Rewards loyalty program by downloading the app, creating an account and providing your email address. Unregistered Tims Rewards members have until April 21 to register their card and reveal their digital rolls."
The promotion runs from March 11th to April 7th, 2020.
In February there was questions from Tim Hortons customers on whether the restaurant would roll out the promotion this year.
