BUFFALO, N.Y (WKBW) — A Pendleton 7-month-old boy died after a fight with a host of medical issues.

Among other complicated conditions, Teddy Nelson had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome, which means he literally was born with half a heart. He had been in the hospital since he was born on August 30th.

"His will to fight is there and I could not be a more proud parent," said the boy’s mother, Alexandria Nelson.

He had undergone two open heart surgeries and suffered a stroke. His case was so unique that before he was even born, his parents had to find a hospital that could specialize in his care. UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh was the closest to take on Teddy's case.

"He's born and raised in Pittsburgh, but belongs in Buffalo," she said. Alexandria said in an interview in February.

You may remember when he capture the hearts of America when his first smile was shared on Good Morning America.
