ALBANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — Governor Cuomo has announced the launch of a "Fireworks Enforcement Detail" to address an uptick in illegal fireworks usage and complaints from residents across the state.

"I've never heard it like this before. They're disturbing, they bother people and they're dangerous. Children...people get hurt every year," Cuomo said during a Monday briefing.

According to the Governor, the New York State Police will be focusing on illegal fireworks that are purchased in Pennsylvania and then brought into New York, where they are not permitted to be be used.

Local governments and police departments will be provided with "additional enforcement tools" to help address the problem that has become a near daily issue in some parts of Western New York.
