LAKEWOOD, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Lakewood-Busti Police Department reports officers arrested a man last Wednesday afternoon at KeyBank in Lakewood following an altercation with a bank employee.

Officers say Gerald Hewes of Mayville entered the KeyBank without a mask on. Employees informed Hewes of COVID-19 regulations and told him he would need to put on a mask or leave the building. According to police, Hewes started "screaming obscenities" at bank employees. When officers arrived, they observed Hewes "holding a bank employee up against a glass cubicle."

Hewes is charged with harassment, obstructing governmental administration, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Officers say Hewes intervered with officers attempting to investigate the situation, and fought with officers as they were placing him under arrest.

Hewes was released with an appearance ticket for Town of Busti Court.
