ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WKBW) — A man who was involved in a 2015 Thruway crash is in trouble with the law again.

Orchard Park Police have arrested 36-year-old Kiran Thapa for DWI after they say he almost caused a crash.

Police say Thapa was observed driving slow on Southwestern Boulevard. According to police, the Buffalo resident made a sudden u-turn and almost caused a crash.

Police attempted to pull over Thapa. He continued to drive the vehicle a quarter of a mile before pulling over.

Authorities say Thapa emitted a strong odor of alcohol and showed signs of being intoxicated. Police administered a field sobriety test which he failed, according to police.

Police say Thapa had a BAC of .26 percent. That is over three times the legal limit.

Thapa was charged with DWI back in 2015. The then 32-year-old was caught on camera driving a Chevy Camaro onto the shoulder of I-90 in an attempt to pass a pickup truck. He lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the truck, which gets shoved into a tractor trailer.

Thapa is charged with driving too slowly, unlicensed operation, felony aggravated unlicensed operation, felony DWI and aggravated DWI. He is also charged with operating without an interlock device.

The 36-year-old man was arraigned and released after posting a $1000 bail. Thapa is scheduled to make an appearance in court. A date has not been announced.
