SALAMANCA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A 62-year-old man drowned Sunday while kayaking in the Allegheny River.

Salamanca police say the man, whose name is not being released at this time, was not wearing a life jacket.

Investigators say they received a report of a man in the water around 4:54 p.m.

His body was recovered just before 7:30 p.m. near Front Avenue.

The Salamanca, Allegany and Weston Mills fire departments were joined in their search by the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office dive team, the McKean and Cattaraugus County sheriff's offices and the Seneca Nation.

It is the second drowning on local waterways in three days. On Friday, a 60-year-old Grand Island man drowned in the Niagara River near Gratwick Park in North Tonawanda after police say he jumped off his boat to go swimming.
