CVS closes longtime store in heart of Downtown Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A highly visible retail tenant in Downtown Buffalo has closed its doors for good.

The CVS pharmacy at Main and Court "closed suddenly" on January 4th, according to Brian Wells of Priam Enterprises, the property manager for the Main Court Building that's been home to the store since the 1980s.

Wells said Priam received no advanced notice, and said CVS cited lagging sales for closing the location.

Priam is actively seeking a new tenant for the storefront, which sits in the heart of downtown with Lafayette Square across the street and City Hall three blocks away. While the 700 and 600 blocks of Main Street just to the north have experienced a jolt of new life with the return of traffic in recent years, the 400 and 500 blocks - where cars are not allowed to share the street with the Metro Rail - continue to struggle to attract new tenants. After 5 p.m., the blocks sit mostly empty.

Interested parties can call (716) 580-3136 to inquire about leasing opportunities.

Another pharmacy, Rite Aid, remains open just a few storefronts away.
