TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WKBW) — Dog walkers at Tonawanda Creek in the Town of Tonawanda came to the aid of a couple and their dog Tuesday morning, rescuing them from freezing water.

Witnesses tell a 7 Eyewitness News photographer that the couple's dog wandered onto the ice and broke through. The man and woman tried to rescue the dog, but both ended up in the water.

The incident happened along the creek near Niagara Falls Boulevard near Creekside Drive. The trail in that area is a popular spot for dog walkers because of the Bark Park at Ellicott Island Park.
