LACKAWANNA, N.Y. (WKBW) — On Thursday, Lackawanna Mayor Geoff Szymanski issued a Code Red message to constituents ahead of nasty weather coming our way.

Due to anticipated high winds Thursday evening, Friday's garbage collection in Lackawanna is being postponed until Saturday.

Anyone who sees any downed power lines should treat them as live and contact National Grid at 1-800-867-5222. Also, the Mayor reminds people that if there are power outages DO NOT use generators indoors or near a neighbor's home.

And drivers, a friendly reminder, if a street light goes out, it needs to be treated like a 4-way stop sign.

Homeowners are also being asked to rake leaves and debris away from any storm receiver on your street or street corner to allow rain water to flow into the sewer.
