LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Transit Drive-In in Lockport is usually closed this time of year, but they're open and offering yet another safe way to celebrate this year. They're going into 2021 with a bang.

"We did fireworks for 4th of July, we did fireworks for Labor Day, but this is the first time we're doing fireworks for New Year's Eve," says Rick Cohen, owner of Transit Drive-In.

If you're looking to get out of the house to ring in 2021 safely, Transit Drive-In is welcoming cars for their first ever double feature New Year's Eve celebration.

"The movies are all scheduled to end between 11:30 and 11:45," Cohen said.

That's when they'll switch to a live stream of the Times Square ball drop. The South Lockport Fire Company will be there to make a little noise with their firetruck as the ball is being dropped.

"And then at the stroke of midnight, we start the fireworks," Cohen says.

Tickets cost $50 per car, and proceeds of ticket sales go toward Make-A-Wish Western New York.

Cohen says he's grateful for the community support this year with all of their drive-in events.

"It's a privilege and it's a responsibility," said Cohen. "We want to make sure that our customers feel safe and that our staff is safe."

Gates open at 5pm and there are plenty of tickets left. Parking is limited to half capacity and Cohen says there will be space to get out of your car and social distance.

"Everyone is really tired of being cooped up, you can come watch the drive in, you can stay in your car, you can get out of your car, you can enjoy the movies, feel safe and hopefully next year will be better," said Cohen.
