BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Preservation Board met Thursday and approved the demolition of two structures at the site of the future Tappo Pool Club at 140 Chandler Street.

BMS Design Studios says one building will remain and will serve the pool club, the next step is to prepare drawings and get all other city approvals.

The tentative opening date is Memorial Day 2020.

The club is expected to be accessible for anyone in the community with a cover fee and also offer private memberships.

"We're trying to make Chandler Street a destination and I feel this is really the way to do so," said developer Rocco Termini in a phone call with WKBW in April when plans were announced.

Designer Benjamin Siegel told 7 Eyewitness News in April the aim is to create a relaxed oasis within the confines of this heavily industrialized area.

“We need to appeal to all types. I don’t think with a three month season you can rely on on group of people," said Siegel in an April interview. “We really try to fit an entire year’s worth of activities into three months here and I think people are dying for something like this.”
