BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Buffalo firefighter was injured when they fell through the floor of a building while responding to a basement fire.

Crews were called out around 8:15 Monday morning after smoke was seen coming from the Mes Lounge building on Franklin Street. Early on in the response to the fire, a firefighter fell through the building's first floor, and into the basement. Fellow firefighters were able to rescue them from the basement and then the injured first responder was taken to the hospital to be checked out.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but fire investigators believe it started in the basement.
