BUFFALO, NY (WKBW-TV) — The Buffalo Curling Club probably wouldn't exist if Danielle Buchbinder hadn't been an early fan of curling. She says "I grew up on the east side and we had three TV channels two American and one Canadian and I remember watching it and just being in awe."

In 2014 Danielle started the Buffalo Curling Club. The non-profit, all volunteer organization has a membership that numbers in the hundreds. With leagues, youth lessons and ice rentals, there is action around the facility seven days a week.

The club is housed in the former Buffalo China Factory. Danielle says "We joke around that we have gone from the hottest place in Buffalo to the coolest place...because right where I'm standing used to be a 200 foot kiln."

Buffalo's curling history dates back to the 1800's and early records indicate that the sport was even played as far back as the 16th century in Scotland. Danielle says "It's definitely got a mental aspect to it...some people call it chess on ice because you are trying to figure out where the rocks go and how to position them."

New members are always welcome. Danielle says the more the merrier and adds "There's a lot of ice time available especially during the day-we'd love to see daytime leagues running in addition to our nights and weekends."

Located at 91 Buffalo China Rd, Buffalo, NY 14210. More information is available at the Buffalo Curling Club website.
