Buffalo Board of Education requests Ulysees Wingo be removed from Education Committee

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Board of Education will be voting on a resolution at the next board of education meeting requesting Buffalo Common Council Member Ulysees Wingo be permanently removed from membership and the chairmanship of the Common Council Education Committee.

Wingo was under investigation for bringing a gun into Riverside High School, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown said Wingo made a "mistake," about a week later the Erie County District Attorney opted not to criminally charge him.

The Buffalo Board of Education released a statement Friday which includes:

Whereas Mr. Wingo’s violation of the law and board policy have compromised the safety and forfeited the trust of students and staff of the Buffalo Public Schools, impacting his ability to work effectively with the District;

Therefore be it resolved, as a consequence of his irresponsible and illegal behavior, the Buffalo Board of Education requests that Buffalo Common Council Member Ulysees O. Wingo Sr. be permanently removed from membership and the chairmanship of the Common Council Education Committee effective immediately.
