BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The former home of Buffalo Bishop Richard Malone has sold.

A diocesan spokesperson announced the closing on Tuesday.

The mansion, which was designed by architect E.B. Green and built in 1928, was purchased by Carmel Oaks, LLC for $1,500,000, and it will continue to be used as a residence.

The palatial mansion on Oakland Place in Buffalo was home to Buffalo's bishops from 1952 until last year when the diocese announced it would be selling the mansion to help pay victims of priest sex abuse. The money will be dedicated to the Diocese of Buffalo’s Independent Reconciliation and Compensation Program (IRCP).

Bishop Malone has since moved to the former convent at St. Stanislaus Church on Buffalo's East Side. Internal documents obtained by the 7 Eyewitness News I-Team revealed that the diocese has spent $200,000 making upgrades to the residence.
