TOWN OF CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A woman who admitted to driving recklessly and causing the death of her passenger was sentenced to five years probation.

According to the Erie County District Attorney's Office, Aleia Easley and another woman were confronted by a loss prevention officer from Save A Lot in the Town of Cheektowaga in April of 2019. Prosecutors say the officer confronted both Easley and the woman for stealing items from the store. They both fled the store in a vehicle.

Easley sped out of the parking lot and through a red light where her vehicle crashed into another car at the intersection of Rossler and Dingins Street. Easley was seriously injured. Her passenger, 21-year-old Jacquelyn McClain, was ejected from the vehicle and died from her injuries.

Easley pleaded guilty to Manslaughter for the deadly crash in October.
