The Diocese of Buffalo is taking action against former priest Joseph Rappl, who has been a seasonal volunteer counselor at the diocesan summer youth camp.

"We were not aware of any such allegations against him until April 5, 2018," the diocese said in a Facebook post. "Mr. Rappl will have no involvement at Camp Turner while this matter is investigated."

The move comes one day after a former Lewiston altar boy came forward to describe alleged abuse by Rappl in the 1980s while he was at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Lewiston.
