Women in Business: Buffalo mom opens PR firm

Corporate event planning, public relations, publicity. Dana Marciniak is doing it all these days.

“I am a one woman show, a one trick pony and I kind of like it that way,” she said. 

It's a new role. Marciniak only opened her communications firm, 85 Westabout a year ago. The mom of two said she wanted a more flexible schedule for her children's sake. So, she took a nerve-racking leap, and opened her own business.

Initially, she was working part time. “I’m just going to do it. What's the worst that could happen?” These days, 85 West is a full-time responsibility. From an author, to an all men's choir, Marciniak represents a wide variety of clients.

She said she has the experience to help local clients get results. “I worked at Fisher Price, Delaware North, and New Era Cap and each of those jobs taught me everything I need to know to run this company. I couldn't have asked for a better journey.”
