WNYer's "Weeping Santa" has been seen worldwide

Posted at 9:27 AM, Dec 15, 2015

Fran Lagana Brooks is a self-taught artist that has been creating art since she was 7-years-old.

If the name is familiar, it's because Fran became internationally known for a painting she created in 1992 called "Weeping Santa." The image was reproduced in prints, Christmas ornaments, busts and even a throw. That painted launched the "Weeping Santa" series. There are 12 paintings in all. Not all the paintings have a Santa, but each one features a tear.

The originals of the first 10 in the series are owned by Salvatore's Italian Gardens and on display during the holiday season. The last two are in Fran's studio and available for sale.

Fran has had a difficult year. Her husband Tom passed away about a year ago. She said, "I haven't done much painting since I lost my husband."

But copies of her famous prints are still available and are being sold at The Made In America Store and the Catholic Store at South Gate Plaza. You can also contact Fran Lagana Brooks Studio at 716-675-8886.
