Gregg VanHorn used to just collect rocks, then he had the idea to clean them up, drill holes in them and turn them into lamps, candle holders, vases and other functional pieces of art. What began as a hobby, grew into a business called DriftRock Bay and now Gregg sells his pieces on line and at shows.
A couple years ago his wife Beth Ann was struck and injured by a drunk driver, so Gregg gave up his day job as an engineer and went into the rock business full time. He says "it propelled me, I had to be home more with the kids and for my wife's doctor appointments, so I thought maybe I could make a go of this and really push it." That was two years ago and since then the business has taken off.
Gregg is getting some of his works together for the Springtime in The Country coming up at the Hamburg Fairgrounds.
