BUFFALO (WKBW) — The team behind Shakespeare in Delaware Park has announced that the first show of the 45th Anniversary season has been canceled because of concerns over the COVID-19 pandemic. Executive Director Lisa Ludwig says that As You Like It, which was scheduled to run from June 18th to July 12th, will not go on as planned.

"The COVID-19 pandemic is changing life as we know it on a daily basis. This unfortunately, includes the way that theater festivals across the globe are choosing to approach their summer season", Ludwig said in a letter posted on Facebook.

Shakespeare in Delaware Park is remaining optimistic that A Midsummer Night's Dream will go on as scheduled in mid-July. "We understand that any upcoming production is contingent on government mandate and the health and safety of you our friends", added Ludwig. "Until then, we would like to express our sincere hope that you and your families remain healthy and safe."

Shakespeare in Delaware Park was founded in 1976 and is a not-for-profit professional theatre company. The company provides free public theatre each summer.
