BUFFALO (WKBW) — The Niagara County Fair has been postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to a statement posted on the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County website, the decision was made following a special meeting of the CCE Board of Directors on Friday night.

"CCE realizes that this decision will cause great disappointment within the community but deemed this decision necessary in order to ensure the health and safety of our area residents and aid in the containment of COVID-19."

The Niagara County Fair is the latest summer event to be canceled because of COVID-19. Erie County, Allegany County, Chautauqua County and Genesee County have also postponed summer fairs for 2020.

While the Niagara County Fair won’t take place organizers are planning to host a virtual showcase of 4-H animals. Information on the virtual auction will be released at a later date.

The Niagara County Fair in Lockport, NY is the largest youth fair in the state and attracts 35,000 people annually.
