COLLINS, N.Y. (WKBW) — When times are tough, Western New Yorkers give back. Buffalo Strong is a new spirit ignited in many of us since the start of the coronavirus epidemic. Farm in Peace in Collins is showing true community spirit by opening a free food pantry for the public.

“The whole purpose of this is if you’re higher risk or if you’re elderly, you don’t feel comfortable going to the store right now, you can come here," said Christopher Jeanniton, owner of Farm in Peace.

This always operated as a free farm stand for the public, but as covid-19 continued to spread, they expanded. Since then, visits have soared and donations, too.

“We started with nine cans and the fridge is now completely filled," said Jeanniton.

It's an opportunity to help others by making a donation and get what you need all while limiting contact with other people.

“I just thought I’d help out. Clean a few extra items out of my pantry and help out someone who might not be able to get to the store," said Cindy Edwards of Collins who stopped by.

It's an option that's really important for this community.

“We’re trying to bring a sense of community back to this rural area. We just want to build up our community and help people. We’re just just good people, we try to be good people and people should be good to each other," said Jeanniton.

They'll provide food as long as they can. They're always looking for donations of food and toiletries, you can drop them off at 3380 NY-39, Collins, NY 14034 or reach out on Facebook.
