According to the City of Olean Police Department, 34-year-old Douglas I. Reed was arrested Monday evening for scheming to defraud.
Officials say Reed was going door-to-door using people's names he would get from porch mailboxes, then go to nearby homes claiming to know next door neighbors. Reed would say his car broke down, needed money to get home, and would repay them.
34-year-old Reed from Killbuck, N.Y. was arrested for scheming to defraud in the second degree.
He was previously arrested in January 2017 for posing as an ex-Marine and scamming Olean residents for money.
