It was a Broadway boot-camp on Tuesday for the high schoolers starring in the Cleve-Hill performance of Hairspray
The teenage performers were picking-up some pointers from Broadway performer, Van Hughes.
He was in town as part of a program called, Straight from New York and he knows a thing or two about Hairspray, having performed in the show so many times, he lost count. Hughes played both Link Larkin and Corny Collins on the Broadway stage.
Director Betty Haynes say Van's masterclass in an invaluable experience for her students. "At first, we didn't know what to expect," said Haynes, "but he's been warm and inspirational and really professional.
Van has been in films like, Sex and the City and TV shows including Law & Order SVU and One Life to Live, but taking time for workshops like this, is something he truly enjoys. "I love to give back," said Hughes, "because you can say one thing a certain way and a kid's mind will open up."
The Cleveland Hill production of Hairspray runs March 2 and 3. Break a leg!
