Amazing nativity collection needs a new home

He started collecting nativity sets 30 years ago. Today Father Roy Herberger's collection includes 570 nativity sets representing 59 countries.

It takes parishioners at SS. Columba-Brigid Church a week to put the sets on display. With all the packing and unpacking there is often damage and lost parts.

But the one-of-a-kind collection has become a crowd pleaser each holiday season for visitors of all faiths. Father Roy says he started it in the first place "for inspiration, for something spiritual or just artistic for other people."

With Father Roy retiring in 18 months, he is actively looking for a new home for his collection, a place where maybe the sets could remain out year round, which would cut down on the wear and tear. Meanwhile you can see this amazing "reason for the season" at SS. Columba-Brigid Church.

The collection can be viewed the next two weekends, Saturday and Sunday, from 1-4p.m. and the first weekend in January, Saturday and Sunday, from 1-4p.m. For more information and directions check the church's website.
