A bumper crop of babies in Freedom, NY

Counting these sheep prevented sleep

Sandy Long has been making a lot of trips out to her barn in Freedom, NY lately. Her dogs Sam and Oree don't seem to mind. While it still looks Wintry outside, inside the barn it's been all about the promise of Spring.

In the past few weeks there have been twenty-two births on Longmeadow Farm. When Sandy opens the gate , a flood of lambs come flouncing out and racing and playing through the barn. Usually people count sheep to fall asleep, but these critters have been keeping her awake lately. Sandy explains "I had a lot of night births this year so it was tiring."

Sandy raises the sheep for the wool which she transforms into colorful hand-dyed yarn. Knitters all over Western New York and beyond are familiar with the Longmeadow Farm name and quality. She sells her unique yarns at shows and out of the "Wool Room" in her home.
